Heinz Baked Beanz

In the beginning
Although Heinz Baked Beanz first appeared on shelves in Britain in 1886, it took another 40 years before they were actually made here in the UK. Like our Cream of Tomato Soup, Beanz were first imported from Canada until 1928 when the first British-made Heinz Baked Beanz went on sale.

Now that Baked Beanz no longer had to make the trip across the Atlantic, it allowed us to produce them more cost-effectively so our loyal fans could benefit. In 1932, a 1lb can of beans cost just 5d (2p), while back in 1901 they cost £1.50 (yikes!) at today’s prices (although customers did receive the tin beautifully packed in a Fortnum’s bag!).

Food stuff
Heinz Baked Beanz are full of fibre and contain essential minerals and vitamins. We’ve also reduced the salt content by 30 per cent (without changing the unbeatable taste of your favourite beans) to meet the Food Standards Agency’s target.

Top trivia
Today we make an incredible 1.5 million cans of Heinz Baked Beanz every day. The recipe is so valuable, and so unbelievably delicious, that we only allow four very special people to know the entire recipe at any one time.
